The Indianapolis Colts pulled the plug on the Carson Wentz experiment after just one season. The Colts traded the embattled quarterback to the Washington Commanders Wednesday for a package that includes a pair of third-round draft picks.
Wentz may have worn out his welcome in Indy. However, at least one soon-to-be former teammate isn’t all that happy to see him go.
The Colts’ All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard took to Twitter to share his frustration about yet another change at quarterback.
“Here we go again! About to be 5 years with the Colts and 5 different QBs! Thank you Carson for everything this year my guy! Wish you nothing but the best!”
Leonard is a three-time All-Pro in just four seasons as the leader of the Colts defense. Unfortunately, trading Wentz will guarantee that for the fifth straight year he will be playing with a different starting quarterback. This will be his fifth season in the NFL.
Despite Leonard’s frustration, it appears Indianapolis’ brass just couldn’t muster the nerve to go with another season with Wentz. Not even Wentz’s long standing relationship with head coach Frank Reich going back to their days in Philadelphia could save him.
Hopefully, Colts general manager Chris Ballard will keep in mind Leonard’s reaction and find the team a long-term solution at quarterback.
