Washington Nationals third baseman Carter Kieboom told reporters Sunday he expects to be out at least four-to-six weeks with his elbow injury. An MRI Saturday revealed the 24-year old has a strained flexor mass in his right forearm near his elbow.
Nationals manager Dave Martinez said there was no firm timetable. Thus, Kieboom could miss additional time.
With the current prognosis Carter Kieboom could miss the first month of the regular season at the very least. Opening Day is set for Apr. 7. That’s a long time for a promising but unfulfilled prospect looking to get his career going.
Kieboom has played in 106 games in first three seasons with the Nationals. He has hit a dismal .197/.304/.285 with eight home runs, 31 RBIs, 46 walks and 111 strikeouts.
He was expected to compete with veteran Maikel Franco at third base. Franco is expected to assume the role during Kieboom’s absence.
