Georgetown star freshman Aminu Mohammed reportedly declaring for NBA Draft

After a strong freshman year, Georgetown star forward Aminu Mohammed will test the waters and declare for the 2022 NBA Draft, according to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers. A return to Georgetown is still an option, but Mohammed is “100% committed” to the draft.

Mohammed committed to Georgetown as a five-star recruit. He was as good as advertised, leading the Hoyas with 13.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. He earned a unanimous selection to the Big East all-freshman team.

His efforts didn’t translate to the overall success of the team. Georgetown lost 21 straight games to finish the season and went winless in Big East. The Hoyas were 0-19 in regular season play and lost to Xavier in the first-round of the Big East Tournament.

At 6-foot-5, Mohammed has great size for the NBA. He can attack the basket and doesn’t shy away from attacking the boards. His shot selection is solid. However, he’ll have to improve his shooting for the next level.

Last season, he shot a subpar 37.9% from the field, 31.0% from three and was a decent 72.2% from the free throw line. But the positive is he wasn’t a high-volume shooter behind the arc, attempting just 1.9 threes per game.

But in today’s era of basketball, he will have to be more effective finishing at the rim and shooting threes. Both his volume and efficiency will have to go out on shots around the perimeter.

His strength and power is eye-popping. His frame and fluid movement opens the door to a lot of potential. He’s projected as a first-round pick, according to 247 Sports. The feedback from the draft process will go a long way into his decision to return to Georgetown or not.
