Last season, DeAndre Carter was a delight for the Washington Commanders as a kick returner and slot wide receiver. Now, he is taking his talents to the West Coast.
Carter has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. According to Ari Meirov of Pro Football Focus, Carter is inking a one-year deal worth $1.1 million with an additional $1.25 million available in incentives.
The Commanders were interested in re-signed Carter. However, he tested the market, visiting the Chicago Bears and Chargers this week.
“I think we’re all just kind of waiting,” Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said per The Athletic’s Ben Standig. “You know what you want, you know where guys fit. Now it’s a matter of getting things worked out.”
DeAndre Carter bounced around the NFL after going undrafted in 2015 out of Sacramento State. But he had his breakout season in 2021 with Washington. He took 36 kickoff returns for 904 yards, including a 101-yard touchdown return.
He also flashed his abilities as a receiver with career highs of 24 catches, 296 receiving yards and three touchdown catches in the Burgundy and Gold.
Carter also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans and Chicago Bears.
It appeared Washington had finally found a stable returner. Unfortunately, Carter’s stint in Washington lasted only one season. He’ll now replace Andre Roberts, a former Washington player as well, in L.A.
