More details have been revealed surrounding the tragic death of former Washington and Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins. According to a 911 call made by his wife, Kalabrya Haskins, Dwayne Haskins was walking on the South Florida highway after his car ran out of gas.
Kalabrya Haskins called 911 from Pittsburgh in a panic after Haskins did not return her calls from their last conversation. Haskins called her from the side of the road near I-595.
“He said he was going to call me back after he finished putting the gas in,” Kalabyra told the dispatcher in the 911 call obtained by TMZ Sports. “I kept calling and kept calling. He wasn’t answering. Eventually, after 10 minutes of calling the phone, eventually it cut off. It’s not working now. I had his location. I just want somebody to go in the area and see if his car is there and if he’s OK and if anything happened to him.”
After a few moments, the dispatcher informed Mrs. Haskins, “I don’t want you to panic, but I’m going to be honest with you. We do have an incident on the highway — but I can’t confirm if that’s your husband or not.”
Dwayne Haskins was in South Florida working out with his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates. The gathering was orchestrated by newly acquired QB Mitchell Trubisky.
Haskins was walking along the highway. He was struck by a dump truck and killed at around 6:37 AM on the morning of April 9. Haskins was 24 years old.
The investigation is ongoing by local authorities.
