Alex Ovechkin is now the oldest player in NHL history to score 50 goals in season

With his eyes set on becoming the NHL’s greatest all-time goal scorer, Alex Ovechkin continues to make history. Ovechkin scored his 49th and 50th goals of the season in Wednesday’s game at the Vegas Golden Knights.

The 36-year old Alex Ovechkin is now the oldest player to score 50 goals in a season. He surpassed Teemu Selanne for most goals in a single season for a player 36 or older. Selanne scored 48 during the 2006-07 season

In the third period, he ripped a slap shot that registered 101 MPH past Vegas goaltender Logan Thompson to tie the game at 3-3 for No. 50.

It’s Ovechkin’s ninth 50-goal season in his illustrious career, tying Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy for the most in NHL history.

By the way Ovechkin is now up to 780 career goals. He’s now 21 shy of Gordie Howe for second on the all-time goals list. He’s 114 away from Gretzky for first all-time.
