With Josh Bell out of the lineup, The Washington Nationals moved Maikel Franco from third to first base and started the 24-year old Lucius Fox at third base in Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants. Fox’s day lasted just two pitches.
Fox exited the game after he vomited adjacent to the pitcher’s mound.
Here’s some of the reaction to the incident with Fox.
The Nationals ground crew worked between innings to clean the area by the mound that Lucius Fox vomited
As a result, Franco moved back to third base and natural catcher Riley Adams was inserted in the game at first base. Adams never played at first prior. However, with his playing time limited due to the emergence of fellow catcher Keibert Ruiz, Adams has been working out at first.
Prior to the game, Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Adams would only play first base in an emergency situation.
An already Nationals bench has shrunk even more. Bell was held out of the lineup after having an MRI on his hamstring earlier Sunday. Bell had an MRI earlier this week on his hamstring on the opposite leg.
Now the concern will shift to the cause of Fox vomiting on the field. Meanwhile, Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski tested positive for COVID-19 prior to Sunday’s game.
