Former DeMatha star Jahmir Young is returning home. Arguably one of the top point guards in the transfer portal announced his commitment to transfer to Maryland.
Young who declared for the NBA Draft will continue his process for the next level. However, if he chooses to return to college it will be to play for new head coach Kevin Willard and the Maryland Terrapins.
Jahmir Young starred at Charlotte for three seasons. He was named first-team All-Conference USA in back-to-back seasons. He was Conference USA’s freshman of the year in 2020.
Last season, he averaged 19.6 points — second in the conference — 5.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Young shot 46.8% from the field, including 34.1% from three.
Young becomes the first DeMatha commitment for Maryland since 2002. The two schools are roughly 12-15 minutes apart down Route 1.
Former head coach Mark Turgeon stayed clear of Stags players during his decade-long tenure. Willard has made it clear, his staff and he will focus on grabbing from the talent-rich DMV area. He’s brought in two prominent assistants with local ties, David Cox and Tony Skinn.
Young is Willard’s second commitment. Noah Batchelor, who is also from Maryland, committed earlier this month from IMG Academy.
