The Washington Commanders entered the NFL Draft with the 11th overall pick in the first round. However, the draft didn’t go according to their board. Thus, Washington traded back, sending the No. 11 pick to the New Orleans Saints.
The Commanders slide back five spots to the 16th pick overall. Washington also received the 98th pick overall pick and the 120th overall pick.
The Saints in return drafted Ohio State wide receiver Chris Olave.
Earlier reports suggested Washington as willing to trade back a “few” spots to pick a wide receiver if their preferred option was already gone. The Commanders had been linked to USC wide receiver Drake London. London was selected eighth overall by the Atlanta Falcons, who has Washington’s former draft guru Kyle Smith.
The Commanders ultimately used the 16th pick on Penn State wide receiver Jahan Dotson.
Washington had their sights on a wide receiver. It’s debatable if Dotson was who they moved back for. But they do pick up a third and fourth round to add depth to their roster.
