Rat runs on field to get closer view of Mets’ rally over Nationals

Nationals Park had an unexpected visitor during Tuesday’s game between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals. During the sixth inning with the Mets batting, a rat made his way on the field.

The rat pranced around the shallow outfield as Mets catcher James McCann was at the plate. After the rat cleared the field, McCann hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored Edurdo Escobar for the go-ahead run to put the Mets up 3-2.

Call him the ‘Rally Rat’ for the Mets? They scored three runs in the sixth, all off Nationals reliever Carl Edwards Jr., who was called up on Tuesday, to erase a 2-0 deficit. The Mets won the game 4-2.

It’s the first noticeable incident in D.C. However, it’s not the first time a Mets game had a visiting rodent.

While the furry critter is most likely a D.C. native, it appears the rodents have a liking to the Mets no matter where.
