Nats prospect Luis Garcia returned to lineup after injury scare

Washington Nationals shortstop prospect Luis Garcia returned to the lineup Thursday night for the Triple-A Rochester Red Wings.

Garcia collided with the first baseman of the Syracuse Mets while running to first base Tuesday night. Garcia went to the ground holding his arm. After being attended to he exited the game.

Garcia hyperextended his left arm in the collision, according to Nationals manager Dave Martinez (h/t Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports). However, Garcia was described as being fine and set to return.

Sure indeed, Garcia was back on the field. He went 2-for-5 in the Red Wings’ 9-7 win over the Mets. He also scored a run.

The news is great for the Nationals. Garcia has been great at the plate with Rochester. He is slashing at .333/.387/.571 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs.

The Nationals hope to have him back in the big leagues at some point, possibly soon as their shortstop of the future. Escaping a lengthy injury was the best possible news for the club’s vision for him this season.
