Transfer Jahmir Young makes decision between Maryland and NBA

When Jahmir Young announced his commitment to transfer from Charlotte to Maryland it was contingent on the process of him going through the NBA Draft evaluation.

Thursday, the point guard announced his decision. Young has withdrawn from the NBA Draft and will attend Maryland next season.

Young starred at DeMatha (Hyattsville, MD) before starring at Tulane the past three seasons.

He was the 2020 Conference USA Freshman of the Year. Then he went on to be named first-team All-Conference USA each of the next two seasons with the Green Wave.

Last season, Young averaged 19.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. He shot 46.8% from the field, including 34.1% from three. He also shot an impressive 89.2% from the free throw line.

The 6-foot-1 Upper Marlboro native is expected to man the point guard position for the Terrapins. He’ll replace the departed Fatts Russell and Eric Ayala as the primary ball-handler.

Obtaining Young is a huge early win for first-year head coach Kevin Willard. Through his hiring of his coaching staff, Willard has committed to restoring Maryland’s presence along the DMV area in recruiting.

The emphasis will be around DeMatha Catholic High School which is a mere few blocks away from the Maryland campus along Baltimore Avenue.

Young is Maryland’s first DeMatha commitment since 2002.
