The Washington Nationals picked up their second straight win, beating the Milwaukee Brewers 8-6 on Saturday. However, there was a scary moment in the stands.
A male fan went into cardiac arrest in the seventh inning while in the stands of Nationals Park, according to the Washington Post’s Jesse Dougherty. The incident led to sections 208 and 209 being cleared. Fortunately, a Nats spokeswoman informed reporters, the victim was alert as he was taken out of the ballpark.
Nationals manager Davey Martinez ended his postgame press conference offering prayers for the fan, according MASN’s Mark Zuckerman. The team was aware and able to see what was going on from the dugout.
According to Dougherty, nearby fans quickly rush to aid the man, Nationals staff and medical personnel. One witness said a male fan performed CPR on the fallen fan for “upwards of 20 minutes.”
In Dougherty’s replies on Twitter, a user claims his wife, who is an ER nurse, was the fan who administered CPR until EMTS were able to arrive on the scene. He also credited an unidentified off-duty firefighter and ICU physician for jumping into action to help.
The Nationals issued a “thank you” to all those who acted in helping the fan during the ordeal.
Thoughts and prayers for the fan. What should have been a leisurely activity turned into a scary event for a fan and the many onlookers.
