The Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals Monday for their 12th straight win. However, the victory came with a price. Their second baseman Ozzie Albies suffered a fractured foot after a freak play while batting.
Albies grounded out to third in the fifth inning. But as he turned out of the batter’s box to run to first base, he stumbled to the ground. He exited the game and was replaced by Orlando Arcia.
After Albies was examined for the freak injury, the Braves announced the extent. A timetable for his recovery will surely be announced later. But, it appears he will be out for an extended time.
Albies has appeared in 62 games for the 35-27 Braves. As a switch hitter, Albies is hitting .244/.289/.405 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs. The 25-year old also has 46 strikeouts to 15 walks.
Atlanta’s hot streak is the longest this season. It propelled them to second-place in the NL East division. They’re five games back of the New York Mets.
