Commanders sign USFL CB De’Vante Bausby, waive LB Drew White

The Washington Commanders added to their defensive back room, signing cornerback De’Vante Bausby, who recently played in the USFL, the team announced. In a corresponding move, the Commanders waived undrafted rookie linebacker Drew White with an injury designation.

White was diagnosed with a torn ACL after he got carted off the practice field on Tuesday.

If White goes unclaimed, he’ll revert back to the Commanders and be placed on injured reserve. Washington then has the option of leaving White on IR for the remainder of the season or release him outright with an injury settlement.

Meanwhile, Bausby becomes the third former USFL cornerback Washington has signed this summer. He joins DeJuan Neal and Channing Stribling.

The 29-year old Bausby played with the New Jersey Generals this past spring. He has NFL experience as well. He’s appeared in 26 games from 2016-2020, playing with the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals.

While with the Broncos, a neck injury after a helmet-to-helmet hit sidelined him in 2019.

Last season, he entered training camp with the Las Vegas Raiders before spending time on the New England Patriots practice squad.

The Commanders are sorting out their depth at cornerback behind William Jackson III and Kendall Fuller. Second-year player Benjamin St-Juste is getting a look at the slot. After that, it’s anyone’s guess how Washington may fill out the position.

Some other notable options at corner include veterans Danny Johnson and Corn Elder as well as seventh-round pick Christian Holmes.
