An NFL reporter caused a stir late Tuesday evening surrounding Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young.
Mike Jurecki reported Young reaggravated his ACL injury working out with Buffalo Bills edge rusher Von Miller in Colorado, leading to the Commanders being “not very happy” with Young.
The Commanders placed Young on the reserved/PUP list at the end of training camp, stemming from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 10 last year. Young will miss at least the first four weeks of the season before he is eligible to play.
Could a setback explain why Young won’t be on the field to start the season despite the initial injury happened 10 months ago.
However, two prominent reporters have refuted Jurecki’s report.
According to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay, Young has been with the Commanders since late July when training camp opened. There have been no setbacks and Young is simply working back from his torn ACL suffered in November of last year.
Fellow NFL insider Jordan Schultz tweeted Jurecki’s report on Young was “absolutely false.”
“This is absolutely false, according to multiple sources. “There’s no truth to this,” one source added. Chase Young suffered a severe injury and has done everything right in regards to his rehab. In fact, he’s ahead of schedule with a real shot to play Week 5.”
Jurecki then deleted his original tweet, apparently signifying he had waved the white flag on the issue.
However, he returned shortly after, responding to Finlay’s tweet.
“JP let’s not kid ourselves he had a setback let’s not gloss over that he could’ve been available earlier. He was limping on the sidelines during the college football game.”
Jurecki added in another tweet, “To say he didn’t have a setback after that workout (June 6th) would be misleading.”
Young was among a contingent of former Ohio State players who were in attendance of the Buckeyes’ 21-10 win over Notre Dame Saturday in Columbus. Jurecki referenced Young as having an apparent limp as he walked around the field.’
In June, Young explained doctors used a graft from his left patellar tendon to reconstruct the ACL in his right knee. The explanation was prior to Miller’s camp.
Beyond that details have been scarce about Young’s recovery, leading some to speculate about his injury. He did participate in Miller’s pass rusher camp. But that was in June. Young reported to the team in July. Until now, there had been no indication of a setback for Young.
