Disaster struck Maryland on the opening kickoff. Wide receiver Tai Felton let the ball bounce off him into open space, as Michigan recovered the fumble at the 10-yard line.
It’s the second straight week the sophomore Felton fumbled on a kickoff.
It didn’t take long for Michigan to capitalize on the gift. Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy connected with tight end Luke Schoomaker on the first offensive snap to give Michigan the early 7-0 lead.
Maryland has since responded. But, this wasn’t the start Terrapins head coach Mike Locksley hoped for his team on the road in a tough environment at the Big House in Ann Arbor.
Felton’s fumble is worth noting in a tight game, that Maryland may look back on with huge regret.
