Dak Prescott ‘not ruling out’ returning Week 4 against Commanders

Dak Prescott could be the Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Sunday when they host NFC East division rival, the Washington Commanders.

Prescott told ESPN’s Lisa Salters he is “not ruling out” the possibility of returning from a fractured right thumb in six days against Washington.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Prescott had stitches removed from his surgically repaired thumb in East Rutherford, NJ before the kickoff of Monday night’s game against the New York Giants. ESPN cameras captured Prescott throwing the football with a protective brace over his thumb.

His return predicates on grip strength, Archer included.

Prescott fractured his thumb during the Cowboys’ Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Including Monday, Prescott missed the next two games.

The Cowboys chose not to place Prescott on injured reserve after the injury, signaling the QB could return within four weeks. Had he been placed on IR, Prescott would have had to miss a mandatory four games, keeping him out until Week 6.

Therefore, the Cowboys have left the door open for Prescott to return within the next two games.

Week 4 will be a pivotal NFC East game for the Cowboys and Commanders. Washington is coming off back-to-back losses, including this past Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
