Commanders’ Brian Robinson calls first practice a ‘beautiful day’

Brian Robinson Jr.’s life flipped upside down on August 28. He was set to embark on his rookie season as the Washington Commanders’ starting running back. Instead, he was shot twice during an attempted armed robbery in Washington, D.C.

Both bullets struck Robinson in the knee. Fortunately, Robinson survived the shooting and neither bullet hit any major parts of his knee. He evaded serious damage.

Five weeks after the shooting, Robinson practiced Wednesday, running around the field. The team cleared Robinson for practice, activating him from the non-football injury list.

Robinson took a huge step towards his miraculous comeback. Aside from a sleeve around his knee, Robinson didn’t show any signs of the shooting.

Following his first practice back, Robinson reflected on his first day back.

“It was beautiful,” Robinson declared, per The Athletic’s Ben Standig. “Just getting back on the field, having fun, being around my coaches and team again. It was just a beautiful day for me, honestly.”

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera was pleased with Robinson’s first day. Robinson had eight to ten reps in practice, Rivera revealed. The head coach looked to see if Robinson favored his injured right leg. However, Rivera didn’t see any signs of him doing such.

“You could see his joy; he was running around and he wanted to do more. We had to slow him down a little bit,” Rivera said of Robinson, per ESPN’s John Keim.

The Commanders will closely monitor how Robinson feels Thursday.
