Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera is tired of the organization riddled with headlines and distractions. Before their Thursday night game against the Chicago Bears, ESPN dropped a bombshell report about Commanders owner Dan Snyder.
The report focused on Snyder collecting information about other NFL owners, league execs, and commissioner Roger Goodell to use in case the owners tried to push him out as owner. However, it dropped a tidbit about Snyder imploring the Commanders decision-makers to trade for quarterback Carson Wentz.
“All my problems will be solved if I can just get a marquee quarterback,” Snyder told an associate, according to ESPN.
Following the Commanders’ 12-7 win over the bears, Rivera got a question about the coach not picking Wentz. Rivera responded with a fiery rant filled with expletives.
“It’s [expletive],” Rivera proclaimed. “I’m the [expletive] guy that pulled out the sheets of paper, looked at the analytics, and watched the tape in freaking Indianapolis.”
Rivera ended the presser saying, “I’m sorry, I’m done,” before walking off the podium.
The Commanders acquired Wentz this past March for a 2022 second-round draft swap, a 2022 third-round pick, and a conditional 2023 third-round draft pick, Washington also received a 2022 seventh-rounder.
It’s not the first time Rivera has been vocal about picking Wentz. He previously stated he brought up the idea of trading for Wentz to Snyder and his wife, co-CEO Tanya Snyder.
However, a source told ESPN, trading for Wentz was “100% a Dan move.”
