Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz suffered a fractured ring finger on his throwing hand, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Wentz’s availability moving forward is “up in the air” as he heads to Los Angeles to see a hand specialist determine the next course of action.
The Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala reports Wentz’s visit with the specialist will happen on Monday.
The injury occurred in the second quarter of Washington’s 12-7 win over the Chicago Bears Thursday night. Wentz banged his hand against the swiping hand of Bears defensive lineman Justin Jones on a pass.
Wentz did not miss a snap. However, his discomfort was visible throughout the remainder of the game. He completed 12-of-22 passes for 99 yards.
If Wentz is unavailable, backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke is in line to start Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers, Sam Fortier adds.
The Commanders’ next game isn’t until Oct. 23, giving Wentz some extra time for his injury.
