Washington Commanders defensive tackle John Ridgeway was determined to bring down Houston Texans rookie running back Dameon Pierce. On the Texans’ opening drive o the second half, Ridgeway went into WWE mode and suplexed Pierce to the ground.
Officials flagged Ridgeway for unnecessary roughness for the tackle. The Texans were already threatening at the Commanders’ 11-yard line. The penalty moved the ball half the distance to the goal line and gave Houston a first down.
Meanwhile, Pierce stayed on the ground for a few moments. But he remained in the game. Washington’s defense held Houston to a field goal, cutting the Commanders’ lead to 20-3.
The good thing is Ridgeway’s gaffe didn’t deter the Commanders from pulling off the dominating 23-10 win.
