Maryland WR Jacob Copeland forgoes bowl and eligibility to declare for NFL draft

The Maryland Terrapins are bowl bound after finishing the regular season with a 7-5 record. However, they’ll be without one of their integral wide receivers. Jacob Copeland announced Wednesday he will skip the Terrapins’ potential bowl game, forgo his last year of eligibility, and enter the 2023 NFL Draft.

Copeland initially attended the University of Florida. He spent four years with the Gators before transferring to Maryland for his senior season.

This season, Copeland had 26 catches for 375 yards and two touchdowns for the Terrapins. He led Maryland with 14.5 yards per catch. He finishes his collegiate career with 112 catches for 1,172 yards and 11 touchdowns between Maryland and Florida.

At 6 feet and 202 pounds, Jacob Copeland has 4.4 speed. He is widely considered a fringe Day 3 pick. Many draft projections have him as an undrafted free agent.

Some may recall a video of Copeland choosing Florida went viral as his mother walked out on her son’s decision. She later returned and hugged her son, but it was apparent she preferred Copeland had chosen Alabama or Tennessee by her attire at the signing.

All worked out for Copeland with spending time with Florida and finishing his college career at Maryland. Now the young man will tackle another journey in hopes of a professional career in the NFL.
