The NFL owners are embarked on their winter meeting this week. The last time the league brass convened in October, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said there was “merit” to remove Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder from the league.
During this go-around, Irsay scaled back his opinion of Snyder’s situation.
“I’m not ready to vote him out,” Irsay said, per Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. “I need to hear more and hear my partners talk. I’m not ready to vote him out. Again, it’s been something where you want to get more information about everything is key.”
That’s a 180-degree turn from his voiceful remarks on the heel of multiple investigations against Snyder.
It was apparent that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasn’t happy with Irsay’s comments in October. Seemingly the owners have a unified front in this week’s meetings about Snyder.
One investigation on Snyder has concluded. The U.S. House Oversight Committee released a 79-page report last week condemning Snyder, Goodell, and the league for the Commanders’ workplace culture.
Snyder is exploring all options in selling the Commanders and hiring Bank of America.
Irsay expressed that Snyder should sell the team than league owners forcing him out.
“I think that that’s something that’s certainly a better solution if it came to that,” Irsay said. “I don’t know anything about it if it’s minority interest or majority interest or something like that.”
Irsay said the commissioner and league office has not provided updates about Snyder’s situation.
