The Washington Commanders dominated the time of possession of the first quarter of Sunday’s NFC East clash against the New York Giants. Momentum was on Washington’s side entering the second quarter when disaster struck by the name of Kayvon Thibodeaux.
First, an 11-yard run by Commanders running back Antonio Gibson was negated by a holding penalty by right tackle Cornelius Lucas. That backed Washington up to their own 10-yard line.
On the next sack, Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux beat Commanders left tackle Charles Leno Jr. before ripping the football out of the hands of Washington’s quarterback Taylor Heinicke. The ball squirted loose. Thibodeaux tracked the ball, recovered it, and ran it into the end zone from the one-yard for a Giants’ touchdown.
The Giants took a 7-3 lead with Thibodeaux’s great play.
Thibodeaux’s name has gotten called a lot early in the game. He has seven tackles, six solos, and three tackles for losses to go with his stripped sack, fumble recovery, and touchdown.
If the Commanders want to regain momentum, they’ll have to identify where Thibodeaux is on the field to keep him from wreaking havoc on the game.
