After Sunday night’s game, the New York Giants trolled Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke. The Giants held on to a 20-12 win over the Commanders. Then the social media team poked a jab at Heinicke and his ritual of buying a pair of Jordans after each Washington win.
The Giants shared a pair of Nike Air Jordan 4 Retro shoes in the Commanders’ colorway — burgundy, white, black, and gold in a graphic with the words “Got ‘Em.”
Heinicke understood the reason for the Giants’ post, but he didn’t like the choice of shoes.
“I will say the J’s they picked were hideous,” Heinicke told reporters, per ESPN’s John Keim. “But I understand what they were doing. They’re Commanders’ colors. I get it, and they’re poking at us. It’s part of being rivals.”
Heinicke had two costly fumbles in the loss to the Giants. The first got returned for a touchdown by Giants’ defender Kayvon Thibodeaux. The second came at a more inopportune time. With the Commanders trailing 17-12, Heinicke lost the football inside the red zone, killing a promising drive. The Giants tacked on a field goal to help cement the win.
The loss was a missed opportunity for Taylor Heinicke. But he gets another to earn a fresh pair of kicks on Saturday. The Commanders face the red-hot San Francisco 49ers on Christmas Eve. Hopefully, Heinicke will buy himself a Holiday present with a victorious red and gold pair of J’s.
