Alex Ovechkin planned to celebrate No. 802 with hot dogs, nachos

Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin sits alone at second on the NHL’s all-time goal list. Ovechkin scored two goals in Washington’s 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets, giving him 802 in his career, surpassing Gordie Howe for No. 2.

When asked how he would celebrate the historic milestone, Ovechkin gave a response that only Ovechkin could.

“Goin to a bar right now. Hot dogs, nachos, you know. Why not?” Ovechkin explained, per Samantha Pell of the Washington Post.

“The Great 8” was able to accomplish the moment in front of the Capitals’ home crowd. If Ovechkin stayed true to his word, a Washington bar got a special patron basking in his moment.

Celebrations are synonymous with Ovechkin. No one can forget how No. 8 celebrated winning his first Stanley Cup in 2018. The images and videos of him chugging away from the Cup and swimming through the water fountain is hard to forget. He single-handily took championship celebrations to another level.

Alex Ovechkin is now 93 away from surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s 894 to sit atop the NHL’s goal list. His eyes are looking down the road at the record. However, for now, Ovechkin wanted to put away some hot dogs and nachos.
