NC State announcer suspended indefinitely after ‘illegal aliens’ comment

NC State play-by-play radio announcer has been suspended indefinitely for an inappropriate comment made during Duke’s Mayo Bowl between the Wolfpack and Maryland Terrapins on Friday. Gary Hahn embarrassed himself while updating the score of the Sun Bowl between UCLA and Pittsburgh.

“One other bowl game involving an ACC team going on. That’s the Sun Bowl. And amongst all the illegal aliens down in El Paso, it’s UCLA 14 and Pittsburgh 6,” Hahn said.

Hahn may have been referring to a recent surge of migrants crossing the border at the Rio Grande. The surge of people has caused overcrowding at the Board Patrol facilities and shelters in El Paso. ‘

“Leafield has suspended Wolfpacks Sports Network play-by-play announcer Gary Hahn from his agreement indefinitely following comments made during today’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl radio broadcast,” Wolfpack Sports Properties general manager Kyle Winchester said in a statement.

Hahn has been the voice of NC State football and men’s basketball since 1991.
