The Buffalo Sabres canceled their media availability on Tuesday ahead of their game against the Washington Capitals in D.C. The team was said to be trying to cope with the scary injury of Bills safety Damar Hamlin. The Sabres and Bills are both owned by Pegula Sports and Entertainment.
Despite their despair, the Sabres took the ice as scheduled against the Capitals. However, the team used the moment to express their support and concern over their injured Buffalo brother.
Sabres players arrived at Washington’s Capital One Arena wearing T-shirts in Bills’ colors, saying “Love For 3,” referencing Hamlin’s jersey number.
The team also placed signs on their bench glass for warmups that read “One Buffalo” and “Love for 3.”
The Capitals joined in by holding a moment of support for Hamlin.
Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field during the Bills’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. The Bills say he went into cardiac arrest before having his heartbeat restored by responding medics at the stadium. He was then transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he spent the night sedated and in critical condition.
The NFL suspended and postponed the game. On Tuesday, the league announced the game won’t resume this week, and there is no determination of its resumption for a later date.
All 32 NFL teams joined in solidarity, changing their social media profile pictures to “Pray for Damar” with his jersey number as the sports world awaits further updates on Hamlin’s health.
