Maryland OC Dan Enos reportedly leaving for Arkansas

Wednesday started off great for Mike Locksley and the Maryland Terrapins. Quarterback and Maryland’s all-time leading passer Taulia Tagovailoa announced he is returning for his senior year. The Terrapins also landed offensive lineman and Division II transfer Gottlieb Ayedze.

However, by the end of the night, Maryland is in need of an offensive coordinator. That is because Dan Enos is finalizing a deal with Arkansas for the same position, according to ESPN’s Chris Low.

Enos will replace Kendal Briles, who is leaving the Razorbacks to become TCU’s offensive coordinator. Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman moved quickly to fill the vacancy.

Enos spent the past two seasons as Maryland’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach. He played a large role in the development of Tagovailoa. Maryland’s offense was fourth in the Big Ten this past season with 401.2 yards per game.

This will be Enos’ second run as offensive coordinator at Arkansas. He was there under then-coach Bret Bielema.

Dan Enos worked his way up the coaching ranks from Division III to Division II to eventually Division I. His first D-I offensive coordinator gig was with North Dakota State of the FCS. He was the head coach at Central Michigan from 2010-2014 before resigning to take the offensive coordinator position at Arkansas.

Enos was an associate head coach and quarterback coach at Alabama during the 2018 season. Locksley was the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator that season. Enos was also the offensive coordinator at Miami (FL) in 2019; and an associate head coach and running back coach at Cincinnati in 2020 before joining the Terrapins staff.

Interestingly enough, Mike Miller served as Maryland’s co-offensive coordinator last season. Miller accepted the offensive coordinator position at Charlotte. Miller could’ve been an option to replace Enos.

Instead, Locksley will have to figure out who his offensive play-caller will be for a returning Tagovailoa in 2023.
