Former Washington defensive tackle Chris “Swaggy” Baker is recovering from a stroke he suffered last week, according to TMZ Sports.
“I can’t believe I had a stroke, but God not done with me yet,” the 35-year-old Baker said in his Instagram story.
Baker’s mother told TMZ the former NFL player suffered a “serious” stroke on Friday. Baker required emergency surgery following the stroke. However, he has responded well and is expected to make a full recovery.
Baker shared a video of him sitting up and talking to a nurse in a Hartford, Connecticut hospital.
Chris Baker started his NFL career in 2009 with the Denver Broncos after going undrafted out of Hampton. He spent the 2010 season with the Miami Dolphins. However, he became a fan favorite once he arrived in Washington in 2011.
Baker played five seasons with Washington. He appeared in 76 games, starting 41 in the Burgundy and Gold. He recorded 11.5 sacks with Washington.
After the 2016 season, Baker signed a three-year, $15.75 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He got released after just one season. He spent the 2018 training camp with the Cincinnati Bengals but was released, ultimately ending his NFL career.
Baker has maintained a social media presence and continued to be a fan of the Washington Commanders franchise.
