The Washington Wizards entered Saturday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets without three-time All-Star Bradley Beal. Now, the team will finish the night without another one of its top-three scorers. Kyle Kuzma exited the game in the first half after rolling his ankle.
Kuzma appeared to roll his left ankle, stepping on the foot of Nets guards Cam Thomas on a drive to the basket. NBC Sports Washington cameras showed Kuzma hobbling off the court.
The Wizards later ruled Kuzma out for the remainder of the game with a left ankle sprain.
Kuzma finishes the game with two points, five assists, and two rebounds in 11 minutes. He, however, missed all six of his field goal attempts.
Washington’s six-game win streak snapped Friday night against the Portland Trailblazers after blowing a 20-point lead. The Wizards responded Saturday, scoring 44 points in the first quarter against the Nets.
Kristaps Porzingis led the way for Washington with 16 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the field, including 3-of-3 from three. Porzingis also made all three of his free throws. But Kuzma’s injury certainly places a damper on the evening.
The Wizards are ninth in the Eastern Conference. Beal has missed 21 games this season with various injuries. He sat out Saturday’s game with foot soreness.
Kyle Kuzma has missed just one game thus far. The focus will be on the extent of his ankle sprain. Kuzma entered Saturday averaging a career-high 21.6 points and 7.7 rebounds. He is third on the team in scoring behind Beal’s 22.4 points and Porzingis’ 22.2 points per game.
