Dan Snyder seeking $7B in sale of Commanders?

With the sale of the Washington Commanders looming, owner Dan Snyder could be holding out for a specific asking price that could slow a potential transaction.

Snyder has been exploring options for selling the Commanders since November. The first round of bids has already occurred with $6.3 billion reportedly being the highest offer.

According to Charles Gasparino of FOX Business Network, the sale of the Commanders will occur sometime after Super Bowl LVII and March’s NFL owners’ meetings. However, A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports reports that Snyder is looking for an asking price of $7 billion.

The $700 million difference is a substantial amount of money. It’s unclear if Snyder has drawn a hard line at $7 billion. Or if he’ll take the best offer.

One potential suitor that could make a move at $7 billion is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Bezos is reportedly interested in buying the Commanders. However, he was not part of the first round of bids. Instead, Bezos expects to submit an offer once all the initial bids are placed.

Even if Bezos meets Snyder’s asking price, it may not be enough to buy the Commanders. Snyder reportedly is unwilling to sell to Bezos, stemming from Bezos owning the Washington Post. In recent years, the outlet has exposed the Commanders’ toxic workplace culture and sexual harassment claims against Snyder which sparked multiple investigations against the organization.

While Dan Snyder may seek $7 billion for the Commanders, $6.3 billion would still be an NFL record for a team sale. Last year, the Denver Broncos sold for a record of $4.7 billion. Therefore, Snyder may have to decide either sell at his asking price or take the best offer available.
