Dan Snyder’s days as the Washington Commanders are ending one way or another. At least, that’s what the latest report suggests. Dan Snyder is exploring all options for selling the Commanders. Reports surface almost daily that either intensify or simmer the climate of a potential sale.
While there is some pessimism among hopeful fans that Snyder may choose not to sell the team, the intention is for Snyder to move on. According to NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry, both the team and NFL league sources indicate Snyder is selling the team. If he doesn’t sell voluntarily, Snyder will get forced out.
The Commanders’ next owner will not be Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Money does talk. Bezos has a lot and could easily outbid any suitors. However, Snyder remains intent on not selling to Bezos. In fact, Snyder “would rather take less money” than sell the team to Bezos.
Snyder detests the Bezos-owned Washington Post. The Washington Post has run several reports over the past three years that sparked multiple investigations into Snyder and the Commanders’ organization. The NFL, Congress, and federal authorities have conducted probes into Snyder and the organization, prompting pressure for Snyder to sell the team.
According to Berry, Dan Snyder hates how it appears that Jeff Bezos is driving the Commanders owner from the NFL and then would get the team.
Bezos has long been rumored to be interested in buying the Commanders. Reports suggest he’s put together an investment group that includes rap mogul Jay-Z in an attempt to buy the Commanders. Yet, Snyder has barred Bezos from placing a bid on the Commanders.
Instead, Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner Josh Harris and Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta have emerged ahead of the pack with bids for the Commanders.
Bids reportedly have landed between $5.5 billion to $6.3 billion. Either mark would be a record for the NFL and North American professional sports. However, the numbers are shy of the $7 billion pundits expected since the Commanders got placed on the market.
Bezos is worth over $118 billion and could meet Snyder’s asking price. However, the disgruntled Snyder would rather miss out on money to keep the team away from Bezos.
