One school’s chances not looking good in the Hunter Dickinson sweepstakes over NIL money

On Tuesday, Hunter Dickinson told everyone to essentially be patient as he continues to mull over his transfer decision. The 7-foot-1 Michigan transfer’s decision may come down to NIL money. If it does, Kentucky is standing its ground.

According to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, Kentucky’s chances to land Dickinson “aren’t looking good” as the program will not guarantee NIL money, unlike other suitors.

Instead, Kentucky’s policy is described as, “If you come to UK, this program is massive and you will make a lot of NIL money.”

Dickinson is believed to prefer a school guarantee.

Jack Pilgram adds that Kentucky didn’t think Dickinson would have picked the school if he had made an announcement on Tuesday.

In addition to Kentucky, Dickinson is deciding between Maryland, Georgetown, Kansas, Villanova, Syracuse, or a return to Michigan.

Peter Nakos explains more about the NIL situation surrounding Kentucky and Dickinson.

“In the case of Hunter Dickinson, we’re seeing all sides of NIL. Kentucky is making it clear the dollars will flow after his commitment. Other schools are opting to possibly go the route of drafting contracts before he actually shows up on campus. Screw the ‘Wild West’ moniker, this is the norm in college sports in 2023.”

Dickinson says he would like to make a call “sooner rather than later” on an appearance on Round Ball Podcast on Tuesday. He also stated he will make the announcement on Barstool’s Instagram page.
