The Washington Commanders had 92 players under contract, following the signing of 12 undrafted free agents. That’s two over the NFL’s limit of 90 players. However, Washington adjusted its roster Friday as the rookie minicamp started, releasing linebacker Drew White and wide receiver Alex Erickson.
Erickson joined the Commanders as a free agent last year after playing five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and one with the Carolina Panthers. However, Washington released him ahead of the 2022-23 regular season.
The Commanders signed Erickson to the practice squad. He appeared in two games last season for Washington, playing exclusively on special teams. Erickson returned four punts for 25 yards.
Meanwhile, Drew White signed with the Commanders last year as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Notre Dame. White flashed as an intriguing prospect. Unfortunately, White tore his ACL in an August practice, sideling him for the 2022-23 regular season.
White got placed on injured reserve after getting waived with an injury designation. Nine months later, White is still recovering from the injury. Thus, the Commanders waived him with a failed physical designation Friday.
