The Washington Commanders are feeling the impact of having new ownership. The NFL franchise announced a new sponsorship deal with communication technology power Verizon.
The corporate sponsorship is the Commanders’ first under the ownership of Josh Harris. Harris’ purchase of the NFL team got finalized last month.
Verizon will provide connectivity throughout the Commanders’ home stadium, FedEx Field. The aim is to “enhance the fan experience,” which includes helping fans get through concession lines faster.
Verizon will partner with the Commanders on aspects outside of providing internet connections throughout the stadium. The tech company will sponsor the Commanders’ Aug. 25 practice at the Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Verizon is no stranger to partnerships with local DC area pro teams. The company held the naming rights of the arena home of the Washington Capitals of the NHL and the NBA’s Washington Wizards from 2006-2017.
The presence of former owner Dan Snyder affected the Commanders’ corporate partnerships. Several serious allegations against Snyder and the organization, including sexual harassment, and financial improprieties, prompted investigations by the NFL, Congress, and the Attorney Generals of D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Sponsors appeared to be reluctant to do business with the franchise.
Now that Snyder is out of the picture, the Commanders can re-establish relationships with Corporate America.
