Latest reports suggest Ron Rivera has until end of season to prove himself

The seat of Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera is scorching following an embarrassing loss to the New York Giants last week. Commanders fans have campaigned for Rivera to get fired if Washington loses to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving.

However, the latest reports suggest fans must wait until the offseason for the team’s new ownership to make a change.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Commanders owner Josh Harris will preferably wait until the end of the season to evaluate Rivera and Washington’s current front office.

Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report added Rivera has six games, including Thursday’s against the Cowboys to prove he should return for his fifth year as the Commanders head coach.

Harris officially bought the team in late July, ahead of training camp. Harris wants to take the year to evaluate the current regime.

Ron Rivera has a 26-34-1 record as Washington’s coach. He entered the season, his fourth, on the proverbial hot seat, needing to make a postseason run to keep his job after three years of struggles.

This season is getting away from the team. First-time starter Sam Howell has shown intriguing promise as a long-term option at quarterback. Yet, the Commanders have dropped seven of its 11 games, including low-point losses to the hapless Chicago Bears and the Giants (twice).

Time is running out on Rivera, but his potential dismissal may not come until after the season.
