There is a lot of intrigue at linebacker with the Washington Redskins with their base defensive scheme switching from the 3-4 to 4-3. With outside linebacker seemingly covered with youngsters Shaun Dion Hamilton and Cole Holcomb, the biggest question remains who will play in the middle.
According to The Athletic’s Rhiannon Walker, the Redskins are interested in bringing back inside linebacker Jon Bostic.
Bostic has bounced around the NFL after being a second-round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2013 out of the University of Florida.
He also had stops with the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Redskins turned to Bostic after Reuben Foster suffered a season-ending torn ACL during OTAs.
With the Redskins, Bostic shored the middle, collecting a career-high 105 tackles. He also recorded one interception and two passes defensed.
Bostic’s potential re-signing may not necessarily end the Redskins search for a middle. However, with Foster still recovering from nerve damage in injured leg, and Holcomb and Hamilton more suitable playing on the outside in the 4-3 scheme, Bostic gives Washington an insurance policy.
The Redskins have numerous needs to fill across their roster. They currently don’t have a second-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, forcing their hands to retain quality veterans at positions not necessarily loaded with depth in this year’s draft pool or free agency.
