Kyle Kuzma put the Washington Wizards on his back Wednesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The former Lakers forward made two of his six three-pointers in the final 26 seconds of the game, including the go-ahead bucket to lead the Wizards to a 97-94 win.
Following the game, Kuzma blamed some hecklers inside Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
“It’s their fault” Kuzma pronounced.
The hecklers had a sign that read “LeBron won Kuzma his ring.”
The sign was in reference to Kuzma being teammates with James while with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers won the NBA championship in 2020.
After a pair clutch threes, Kuzma turned to the fans to deliver a classic NSFW response, saying “Without LeBron, Cleveland wouldn’t be s–t,” according to Andrew Gillis of NBC Sports Washington.
Here’s video of Kuzma’s presser detailing the exchange.
No question Kyle Kuzma got the final laugh. The Wizards were down by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter. They stormed back, with Kuzma hitting back-to-back threes to cap the Wizards comeback win.
He also delivered a burn to some Cavaliers fans. It’s no question James is the greatest player to play for the Cavaliers. The franchise was in obscurity before he arrived as the No. 1 overall pick in 2003.
Cleveland went back to being irrelevant when James took his talents to the Miami Heat in 2010. But he eventually returned to the Cavaliers in 2014, delivering the franchise and team an NBA championship in 2016.
James’ second departure from Cleveland to join the Lakers in 2018 has sent the Cavaliers into an ongoing rebuild. History has shown Kuzma may have a point.
