Derrius Guice Attorney releases statement: ‘Adamantly denies’ allegations

Derrius Guice’s attorney, Peter Greenspun, released a statement surrounding his client’s arrest on domestic violence charges. Greenspun said in the statement, Guice will not be commenting on the charges against him that he “adamantly denies.”

Guice is facing one count of strangulation which is a felony. He also is facing three counts of battery and assault and one count of destruction of property. Guice turned himself in Friday afternoon to the Loudoun County Sheriff. He was released shortly afterwards by the Washington Football Team.

“Unfortunately, the investigators did not seek a statement or any input for Derrius before the warrants were issued,” the statement read. “The failure to fully investigate allegations of events, which allegedly took place months ago is inexplicable.”

“Based only on the assertion of the unsubstantiated charges, the Washington Football Team released Derrius, also without any inquiry as to what did or did not take place…”

“Derrius will defend these charges in court, where a full vetting of allegations will take place, in contrast to actions by local law enforcement and the Washington Football Team that assumed the worst, directly contradicting every sense of fairness and due process.”

Washington drafted Guice in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He appeared in only five games in his two seasons in Washington due to multiple knee injuries.

Guice was expected to compete for the featured back role this season. However, his time in Washington came to an abrupt end following his arrest.

Greenspun is a high-profile defense attorney. He represented the DC sniper John Allen Muhammad in his capital murder trial in 2003.
