Cornerback Quinton Dunbar is returning to the Washington Redskins next season. Dunbar signed a three-year extension to stay with the Redskins. The deal is reportedly worth $10.5 million over the next three seasons with $5.25 million guaranteed, according to Ian Rappoport of NFL Network.

With the Redskins going into the off-season with a tight salary cap, they must act on any opportunity to re-sign quality in-houses pieces at a bargain rate. They did so with Dunbar. The former wide receiver gets a significant raise that pans out at $3.5 million per season — he made $615,000 in base salary this past season. However, the deal gives Washington a huge relief as they bigger decisions ahead of them with both quarterback Kirk Cousins and inside linebacker Zach Brown possibly entering free agency.

Dunbar has established himself as a serviceable outside cornerback. He will be able to stick with most No. 2 wide receivers and hold his on against top wide receivers. He has a great speed and range and his size at 6-foot-2 allows him to compete in 50-50 passes.

The numbers on Dunbar’s deal is certainly to be a bargain compared to what the team would have had to dish out to re-sign Bashaud Breeland. Therefore, all signs point to him being the odd man out with Josh Norman on a lucrative, five-year deal that will be entering a third season.
