Dwayne Haskins to honor Davon McNeal with helmet decal

Dwayne Haskins will honor Davon McNeal when he takes the field for Washington’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Washington Football Team starting quarterback will wear a “Davon McNeal” decal on the back of his helmet.

McNeal was just 11 years old when he fatally shot on the Fourth of July in Washington, DC during a stop-the-violence cookout organized by his mother. He played youth football and had aspirations of one day playing in the NFL.

Haskins previewed his helmet with the Davon’s decal in an Instagram story.

The NFL is allowing players to wear decals on the back of their helmets honoring victims of violence, racial injustice and police brutality. The gesture is part of the league’s efforts on raising awareness of systematic racism and police brutality across the country. In addition, the league had “End Racism” and “It Takes All of Us” painted in the end zones of each team’s field.
