The Washington Football Team is revealing its new name, logo, branding and uniforms Wednesday morning.
Leaks have surfaced in the 11th hour ahead of the official reveal, including NBC4’s Chopper4 capturing a shot of a banner at FedEx Field suggesting the new name to be the Washington Commanders.
Other leaks include merchandise and the new hashtag #takecommand. Apparently, the team’s new jerseys have shown up on social media. Let’s hope these aren’t the new Washington Commanders uniforms.
As we’re finding out the team’s name may be the Commanders ahead of NBC’s Today show reveal, one suspense to look forward to is the uniforms as well as other branding. If these are the uniforms, they’re just as much as a dud as many say the new name is.
The burgundy jerseys look fine, except for the font. The black jersey is okay, but does it have anything linking back to the team’s history as Washington’s brass suggested the re-brand would be?
The white jerseys appear to have red more so than the team’s burgundy. Remember when head coach Ron Rivera said the traditional color scheme will be untouched? So the only jersey with traditional colors is the presumed home jerseys?
Oh and the three stars that hint to a commander’s ranking appear inside the jersey not necessarily visible to onlookers.
Let’s wait until Wednesday to see if these images are legit. Also, let’s see them on the players. It seems as if Terry McLaurin, Jonathan Allen and Chase Young will be part of the reveal. And let’s see how the jerseys mesh with the pants, if these are indeed legit.Â
Considering how the process has been fumbled by Washington’s brass, the jerseys are only fitting to the name reveal. Still, let’s hold out hope these aren’t the actual jerseys for the Washington Commanders.
