Maryland lands first 2023 commitment with Team Durant star Jahnathan Lamothe

Four-star guard Jahnathan Lamothe is staying close to home. The St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, MD) and Team Durant star announced his commitment to Maryland. Lamothe is Maryland’s first commitment from the class of 2023.

After hiring head coach Kevin Willard from Seton Hall. Willard put the emphasis on building a foundation of recruiting from the DMV area to keep talent home. Willard hired two prominent assistants with ties to the area. It was one of them – Tony Skinn – who led the charge in getting the Terrapins Lamothe’s commitment.

Lamothe highlighted Willard’s commitment to the area in an interview with 247 Sports’ Adam Finkelstein

“He emphasized hometown kids,” Lamothe said of Willard. “He really wants to build around Maryland kids and bring back excitement to College Park.”

Lamothe stands 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds. He chose Maryland over Georgetown, UCF and Penn State. So give Willard the nod for winning the recruiting battle between he and Georgetown’s Patrick Ewing over this local talent.

The Terrapins are bringing in a solid 2022 class, which will be Willard first in College Park. That group includes three DMV products with transfers Jahmir Young and Donald Carey and incoming freshman Noah Batchelor.
