The Washington Redskins are approaching the most pivotal off-season in recent franchise history. At the top of their tasks, among other things, is what to do with QB Kirk Cousins. Placing a third consecutive franchise tag on the talented signal caller may be too much for the Redskins to handle economically and a long-term deal may be a long shot.
With that said, the Redskins must consider all options that may include finding a suitable replacement at quarterback for Cousins.
Meanwhile in Kansas City, the Chiefs seem destined to begin the separation from their own mainstay QB, Alex Smith. Smith and the Chiefs completed another disappointing playoff meltdown and with the future at quarterback already on the roster in Patrick Mahomes, the time may never be best to part ways from Smith.
Just ahead of their Wild Card Round loss to Tennessee, a report surfaced the Chiefs are open to trading Smith. If so, would the Redskins be a suitor?
Well according to betting odds in Las Vegas, Washington is a viable option for Smith to be on their 2018 roster. Mike Jurecki of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM relayed odds placed by Bovada on where Smith would be at the start of next season and the Redskins made the list with 12-to-1 odds.

Washington comes in at the same odds as the New York Giants, who too will have to contemplate the future bond with their starting QB, Eli Manning. There are teams with better odds, including the Chiefs, who have the best odd. Arizona, Buffalo, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Denver, and the New York Jets also make the top of the list. Those are the same teams figured to be in the market for Cousins.
Smith may not have the strong arm like Cousins, but he has been successful in the NFL as a starting QB. He is a regular season winner, good enough to be a short-gap solution. If Kansas City does not find a worthwhile offer, they still have a potential out. If they released Smith, they would save a whopping $17 million under the salary cap.
Even if he lands on free agency, Smith would be a cheaper option than Cousins, who either will come at the price of $34 million via a franchise tag, or close to that figure on a long-term deal.
There is no telling if the Redskins are interested in Smith or he in them. But, there is no denying he is a suitable option if Cousins and Washington separate.
