The Washington Football Team has started its cut down from 80 to 53 players. And they did so with a splash, cutting safety Sean Davis, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Davis signed with Washington this off-season on a one-year deal with a $2 million signing bonus, indicating he was expected to start at free safety alongside Landon Collins. However, Davis was out-shined by the emergence of third-year safety Troy Apke.
Apke got majority of the first-team reps once training camp opened to the media. Davis seemingly fell out of sight. Additionally, seventh-round pick Kamren Curl impressed throughout camp.
A Washington, DC native, Davis was hoping to catch on with his hometown team. He was a second-round pick in 2016 of the Pittsburgh Steelers out of the University of Maryland. He spent four seasons there before signing with Washington.
