Washington releases WR Cam Sims and Trey Quinn

Wide receivers Cam Sims and Trey Quinn have long been linked together. Both are Louisiana natives. Both started their NFL careers in Washington in 2018. The two even suffered ankle injuries in their NFL debuts landing them on injured reserve.

Saturday, the pair received the same fate being released by the Washington Football Team.

Quinn and Sims became fan favorites, flashing in training camp and preseason as rookies in 2018 and 2019 under then-head coach Jay Gruden. But neither could keep traction when the games counted.

Inconsistency and injuries marred both. Quinn appeared in 15 games with 35 catches, 273 receiving yards and two touchdowns through two seasons. Sims played in eight games, making two catches for 13 yards during the same time frame.

In the mean time, Washington discovered two more polished wide receivers in 2019 with Terry McLaurin and Steven Sims Jr.

With a new regime in Washington led by head coach Ron Rivera, Quinn and Sims had their work cut out to make the 53-man roster. McLaurin and Steven Sims were locks for the roster. Washington also drafted Antonio Gandy-Golden and signed Dontrelle Inman. Additionally, undrafted free agent Isaiah Wright flashed throughout training camp.

While Sims and Quinn flashed at times in camp as well. But with their ceiling not growing, the two appeared to be odd men out in the decision, who to keep at wide receiver.
