Washington signs CB Cole Luke to practice squad

The Washington Football Team is adding cornerback Cole Luke to their practice squad, according to JP Finlay of NBC Sports.

Luke entered the NFL as undrafted in 2017 out of Notre Dame. He spent three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, where Ron Rivera was head coach previously.

Luke was placed on injured reserve in his rookie season, and spent 2018 and the first half of 2019 on the Panthers’ practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster and appeared in eight games in 2019.

The Panthers waived him on Aug. 28. Washington worked him out Saturday after finalizing their 53-man roster.

Luke is listed at 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds. He is the nephew of former Dallas Cowboys safety and former ESPN analyst Darren Woodson.

The addition of Luke along with offensive tackle David Steinmetz brings Washington’s practice squad total to 15. They now have two spots remaining.

Luke joins Aaron Colvin as the two cornerbacks currently on the practice squad.

Washington have six cornerbacks on their 53-man roster, keeping 2018 holdovers Greg Stroman and Danny Johnson. Kendall Fuller and Fabian Moreau have recently been nursing injuries which may have played a factor in Washington keeping six corners.
