Thursday night presents a highly-anticipated college football showdown between ACC foes, North Carolina and Pittsburgh. The game at Heinz Field will feature two of the top quarterback prospects for the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.
North Carolina’s Sam Howell and Pitt’s Kenny Pickett will battle on the same field. Over 30 scouts are credentialed for the game, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
That includes the Washington Football Team. The team is expected to send three representatives, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.
With a 2-6 record, the Washington Football Team currently holds the sixth overall pick in the draft. Washington is sure to be in the market for a quarterback next offseason. They’re in a prime position to have their pick among the quarterbacks in the draft.
Kenny Pickett is trending upwards and rising up most draft pundits boards. ESPN’s Mel Kiper has Pickett as the top QB coming out of college. Others have him slotted in the first round.
Sam Howell is heading in the opposite direction as Pickett. The guy who tossed passes to Washington’s rookie wide receiver Dyami Brown a year ago was initially considered one of the best two quarterback prospects. However, he and UNC have struggled with a 5-4 record. As a result, Howell has slid out of the first round for many experts.
Nevertheless, it’s way too early in the process to definitely sort out the order of quarterbacks. Pickett enters Thursday having thrown for 3,171 yards and 29 touchdowns against three interceptions in nine games this season. He has four rushing touchdowns also.
Howell has 2,408 passing yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions in nine games this year. Howell also has 699 and eight touchdowns rushing.
Washington general manager Martin Mayhew was among the many observers this past Saturday for Liberty vs. Ole Miss. Eyes were set on Liberty quarterback Malik Willis and Ole Miss’s quarterback Matt Corral. Willis threw three interceptions. Corral had 324 passing yards and a touchdown as Ole Miss down Liberty 27-14.
